the heating bits initiative

In 2022, Data Centers (DCs) used 460 TWh of electricity worldwide à 2% of the global electricity demand.
The international Energy Agency expects the global annual electricity demand from DCs to range between 650 and 1050 TWh in 2026, potentially accounting for up to 4.5% of the global electricity demand. This DCs expansion is associated with key energy and climate-related challenges, namely impact on the power grid, inefficient energy usage and high electricity-end-use carbon footprint. Switzerland, as one of the European countries with the highest number of DCs, is highly concerned by this evolution. This project aims at developing innovative solutions addressing all these aspects.
